Athena – Mental Health aims at the exchange of experiences and methodologies regarding the psychosocial rehabilitation services and programs provided in Belgium communities with emphasis on vocational rehabilitation. The transnational cooperation between AIGS and CRCA aims to strengthen the development of a common network and adopt a common and more efficient methodology by all European Member States.

Employers and Persons with Mental Illness: Rejection or Inclusion?
May 2002 – May 2005

The research aims to study the employers’ and the public’s attitudes towards persons with mental illness and prove that the major reason contributing to the unemployment of individuals with mental illness is the discrimination and the stigma they experience from the public and employers. Furthermore, the research will provide information on the incentives that employers would find more tempting in hiring persons with mental illness, as well as other concerns related to the subject.

Training of Teachers of Mainstream Schools
June 2003 – May 2004

The project aims to

- Train regular teachers of mainstream schools on how to approach, teach and assist students with disabilities who have been integrated into the mainstream after the pass and implementation of the Special Education law of 1999.

- Provide feedback to the ministry of education on the implementation of the legislation and how to improve the educational system with regard to the students with disabilities.

The development of a Bi-communal Rehabilitation Center
July 2000

The main objective of the project is to establish a bi-communal rehabilitation center, which would provide services to persons with any disability and to the socially deprived with the scope of improving their quality of life in every aspect with the ultimate goal of employment.
